This will support electronic transmission of prescriptions (ETP) to pharmacies linked to the NHS Care Records Service spine and also to the national Prescription Pricing Authority (PPA). This article reflects on the experience of evaluating three pilot implementations of ETP in England in 2002, and concludes that some evaluation findings may be relevant not only to ETP messaging but also to electronic health record (EHR) systems and hence to the broader implications of implementing the NHS Care Records Service.
