This article provides an overview of the ways in which information and communication technology can act as a useful tool to help older people and their family carers to improve the quality of their everyday life by providing appropriate information, education and support in relation to their caring situation. This is carried out by reference to the ACTION concept, which is outlined and subsequently discussed. In particular, ACTION is put forward as an innovative way of working in partnership with older people and their families to create and evaluate services that are truly responsive to their caring needs and preferences.
