Research data from cyberspace

interviewing nurses by e-mail

Nurses working within a variety of research paradigms, and using both qualitative and quantitative methods, frequently gather data by interview or questionnaire. This paper discusses the use of electronic mail (e-mail) as a means of interviewing research subjects, and suggests that it could be more widely used by nurses with access to the Internet. The author's experience in using this method outlines the problems and advantages of this medium for obtaining interview data. One of the main advantages is that the need for transcription of interview data prior to analysis is totally obviated.
